Summer Book Recommendations

I don’t know about you guys….. but I am melting.

I’m surprised I’ve even been able to maintain a humanoid shape.

A far as I know there are three ultimate evils in this world; people who stop you from getting books, stairs and the sun.

I know some people love the sun but….. HOW?!?! How can anyone enjoy being exposed to immense heat??

If I had to vote on the best seasons, Autumn and Winter would win… they would win so easily…..

But despite the melting of flesh and the tears our skin continuously produces, we readers seem to associate summer with light hearted reading.

How we associate burning hell with fluffy reads is beyond me.

Around summer time when I’m not crying about this horrid HEAT!!!!!!! I almost always get the urge to read something fluffy and cute…. again the why of this feeling is unknown…. ask a sorcerer the next time you come across one, DO IT FOR THE TEAM!!

And so, I have compiled a list of books that are fluffy in nature, that we would giggle at as we drown in our sweat and tears.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

KODAK Digital Still Camera

Eleanor is the new girl in town, and she’s never felt more alone. All mismatched clothes, mad red hair and chaotic home life, she couldn’t stick out more if she tried.

Then she takes the seat on the bus next to Park. Quiet, careful and – in Eleanor’s eyes – impossibly cool, Park’s worked out that flying under the radar is the best way to get by.

Slowly, steadily, through late-night conversations and an ever-growing stack of mix tapes, Eleanor and Park fall in love. They fall in love the way you do the first time, when you’re 16, and you have nothing and everything to lose.

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, Eleanor & Park is funny, sad, shocking and true – an exquisite nostalgia trip for anyone who has never forgotten their first love.

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

Classic movie buff Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online by “Alex.” Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush.

Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life–or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown. Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth–a.k.a. her new arch-nemesis. But life is whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever-it-is she’s starting to feel for Porter.

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter. The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately.

It Only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne

Audrey is over romance. Since her parents’ relationship imploded her mother’s been catatonic, so she takes a cinema job to get out of the house. But there she meets wannabe film-maker Harry. Nobody expects Audrey and Harry to fall in love as hard and fast as they do. But that doesn’t mean things are easy. Because real love isn’t like the movies…

The greatest love story ever told doesn’t feature kissing in the snow or racing to airports. It features pain and confusion and hope and wonder and a ban on cheesy clichés. Oh, and zombies… YA star Holly Bourne tackles real love in this hugely funny and poignant novel.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad s old costume), Elle s determined to win unless her stepsisters get there first. Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons before he was famous. Now they re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he s ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again? Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Lexi Angelo has grown up helping her dad with his events business. She likes to stay behind the scenes, planning and organising…until author Aidan Green – messy haired and annoyingly arrogant – arrives unannounced at the first event of the year. Then Lexi’s life is thrown into disarray.

In a flurry of late-night conversations, mixed messages and butterflies, Lexi discovers that some things can’t be planned. Things like falling in love…

This is more or less a kinda reading plan for this summer… I want to read all the fluffy stories I can find. Believe it or not most of the contemporaries I have on my shelf are kinda dark… these ones are the fluff books…. I hope

Have you read any of these?? Do you also have the urge to read fluffy books in the summer?? It’s not just me who wants to hibernate through the summer is it?? Am I the only one melting?!??

    1. I’m really excited about reading books about love but not the normal kind of love…. the geeky kind of love…. I need more of it. It would make my heart pretty damn happy 😀

I REALLY NEED TO GET TO GEEKERELLA EVERYONE LOVES IT!!! I AM SO OUT OF THE LOOP!!! AAHHHHHHHH!

  1. These do look SO CUTE! I honestly don’t read books depending on the weather 😂 but I do like the occasional fluffy book to relax. And it’s more summer than anything else where I live in Australia (I live in a really tropical part haha) so we probably get about 4 cooler months out of the year and that’s it? I feel like hibernating in the winter more! I’m SO unproductive if it’s cold!

    1. I don’t read much contemporary buuuuuut cute books like these give me so much hope for the world and make me feel like a ball of fluff.
I don’t think I could survive in constant heat…. I would literally be a warm, melted pot of ice cream and everyone would be confused and upset XD

  2. I enjoy the heat, only if there’s a body of water to jump into immediately and a book to keep me company. I love reading in the sun, getting too hot, jumping into water, and then going back to reading! Right now I’m on a fantasy roll, but I’ll probably have to check out Geekerella and Alex, Approximately soon as it’s starting to get warmer and my trip to the beach gets closer! Great recommendations.

    1. I envy your ability to find joy in this heat. If you take over the world, I won’t stop you…. you’re too powerful at this point XD
I literally feel like a puddle that’s trying really hard to stand up like a human XD
Considering that Contemporary isn’t my go to genre, I am liking all the adorably fluffy books…
Thank You! 😀 Happy reading to ya!

  3. Omg I am TOTALLY with you about the wretched heat—I understand no school and all, but HOW can people prefer baking to nice cool weather?? And it’s honestly so hard for me to get through contemporaries most of the time, but summer is when I really try to force my way through one😂😂 Great recs!!

    1. I KNOW RIGHT?!?!?! I can’t wait for Autumn ;_; MAKE THE MEAN BURNING THING IN THE SKY GO AWAY!!
Summer seems to be the only time that I will read contemporaries??? Otherwise I find them hard to go through too. Mainly cause I’m all “WELL WHERE’S THE DRAGON??? HE CAN LITERALLY FIX EVERYTHING!!!”
      Thank You! 😀
Happy Reading (in this horrid weather ;_;)!!!
