Hello….. it’s me….. I’ve been wonderin—
So, I’ve been absent from the blog-o-sphere….. again. Instead of writing a whole post about it I’m just gonna shove it here…. just so you guys know what’s going down on my end. I was studying Criminology at University and I have been going through the process to change my course (it was longer than I expected and very scary…. I talked to a lot of people…. very spooky) and I was successful! I am now studying Astrophysics at the same University! I’m really excited! Criminology wasn’t what I felt like I wanted to do with my life (I passed the first year and found it interesting but it just wasn’t for me)…. but Astrophysics is much, much, much better! But I’m studying the foundation year…. which means I’m gonna be pretty busy so if my blogging slows down….. that’s why.
Any whoooo! I haven’t been reading much (because of the stress and fear!!) and so I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of books I’m excited about to make me even more excited which, in turn… should make me read more??
So, I’m going to list 10 books from my TBR that I’m excited for (‘cause heaven knows that I need to do something about that beast!) as well as 5 books I don’t have that I’m excited for…. new releases….yeeeeeeah…. BOOKS!
All covers link back to Goodreads! So feel free to check them out and expand your TBR even more!!! 😀 Note: Any sequel books are linked back to the first book in that series to avoid any spoilers.
Books From The TBR:
Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones – I’ve been meaning to read this one since it came out… but I haven’t….. but now I have the sequel so I can binge read it?? Which I will! GOBLINS!!! A GOBLIN KING!!! I’m so here for goblins with established societies.
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody – Another that I was going to read as soon as I got it (past me had such high hopes for herself….. so sad)… But, fun fact, this is a standalone! I tend to read standalones quicker than books that have series?? I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I’m scared of commitment??
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – I feel like my life has been missing that little something recently. And I have concluded that that something is Shadowhunters. Plus Queen of Air and Darkness comes out in December?? So it would be perfect timing if I read LM and LoS before then. I’ve heard great things about it! Specifically I’ve heard great things about a certain Julian Blackthorn.
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon – I find clairvoyance so fascinating to read about, and I have the first two books in the series soooooo… I really don’t have an excuse for this one. But illegal psychic abilities and an underground clairvoyant mafia!!! I’M HERE!!!
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness – Witches. Daemons. Vampires. A super special book/manuscript. Forbidden Romance. Honestly… this just sounds like a good time. And it’s a completed series too! I just need to get my hands on the other books and BOOM! A binge reading party!
Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes – I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one. It’s a multi Pov story, set in a world where kingdoms are at war? I do love myself some Kingdom settings! Double points if said Kingdom setting is dramatic and flamboyant.
A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet – Again… Kingdom settings. Omph. I can’t get enough. Basically, there’s magic, DRAGONS!!!!, rival gods and battle and *deep sigh* What more could I ask for from a book tbh.
The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell – Thievery and heists. Time travelling and rare “extinct” magic. I’m here for some professional heists!!! *glances at Six of Crows sitting unread, a dagger appears*
These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch – Ahhh, Pirates. Finally, more pirate books!!! Also I really liked the Snow Like Ashes series by this author so EXTRA EXCITE!! There is also Botanical Magic (FLOWER POWER YEAAAAAAA!).
Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett – NightDrakes. They are dragons, but they can’t fly. But they are ferocious (as is expected of my dragon sons). Admittedly, 75% of my excitement for this book is because of the deadly flightless dragons. But the MC has secret magic that lets her influence the minds of animals… I see potential that she’ll become friends with a deadly, flightless dragon!!! But also…. there’s a kingdom setting…. KINGDOMS AND DRAGONS!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!
Books Yet To Be Released:
A Curse So Dark And Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
Fall in love, break the curse.
It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.
I love Brigid Kemmerer’s writing, and so when I heard about this book, I knew I needed it. Also, I’m a sucker for retellings. Beauty and the Beast is a classic!

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…

A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering
And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem – that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.
