Top Ten Tuesday: Series I Need to Stop Throwing Into Caves and Running Away From.

The prompt for todays’ Top Ten Tuesday (Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl)was “Series I’ve given up on/don’t plan to finish” and well….. There aren’t really any series I have that I don’t want to finish. Like I want to finish them all… Because their first books were friggin’ amazing! The prompt did say that we could feel free to change it to “Series that I want to finish someday”, so that’s what I’m gonna do here folks!

It’s actually really rare for me to not finish a series. If I read a book and like it, it’s very likely that the next book in that series is what I’m going to read next. Double-time likely if I have the entire series on my shelf. But sometimes it’s a case of; I’ve read the first book and now I urgently need the second buuuuut I can’t afford it.

And when I can afford it, I buy it. Then don’t read it. Because I’m reading other books. And that leads to those series being neglected and me crying in a corner clutching the shiny new books I’m reading because “I swear I’ll get to them soon. I swear it!”

SO! This is going to be a list of the series I have started but not finished, and I have absolutely no excuse for not finishing them because I have all the books in the series….

The Young Elites Series by Marie Lu

I bought the first book in this series way back when. I remember it being one of the first books I bought when I first got paid. I read it and loved it (I cried a little, but IT WAS SAD OKAY?!!?), I’ve even started the second book (hence why it’s been on my Currently Reading Goodreads thing for a few centuries). I stoped because I wasn’t in the right reading mood (It was summer time and the fluffy contemporaries were screaming at me).

But I plan to try and finish this series before the year 2018 is up. I love Marie Lu’s writing, it’s so magical and I basically would read anything she writes.

Rebel of the Sands Trilogy by Alwyn Hamilton

Rebel of the Sands was one of those books that were a hell of a lot cheaper on Amazon than they were anywhere else. And back in the day, when I bought it I was trying to use up my gift card money (Back then I refused to waste a single penny). So for £4 I was all for it, it sounded like a book that I would enjoy. And then, I don’t remember ever planning to read it, but somehow I had picked it up and I had finished it and immediately went to Amazon to find out when book 2 came out (which I then bought on release day after crying for 6 months while waiting).

I’ve read the first two books in this series, and I enjoyed them a lot, so I really don’t know why I haven’t picked up the third and final book??

Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard

This is again one of those series where, you read the first book (and love it). You then wait for the second book to be released (buy it and love that one too) but then you wait for the third and forth and you just can’t get back into it??

Like I loved Glass Sword the most out of this series so far, and I’m only 57 pages into King’s Cage. But I’m not feeling as enthralled as I was?? Mind you, it’s been a long time since I read Glass Sword… maybe I need to re-read??

It’s not that I’ve lost interest, I really do want to read them. It’s just that I want to read all the other things too?? Maybe I’ll try to read them before the year is up too.

Under the Never Sky Trilogy by Veronica Rossi

In my defence on this one I only recently bought the other books in this series.

I read the first book a very long time ago, but I remember really enjoying it. This series is a dystopian, and humans experience life through Virtual Reality simulations because they live in a dome. And outside the dome, other people live that have evolved with like increased senses and stuff (super-hearing/sight/smell and the like) and they are thought to be more animalistic. But they were actually pretty friggin’ cool, they’re like supreme hunters…. OH! And the sky has this weird blue lightning stuff that kills people and will basically destroy the planet. No biggie.

I don’t know when I’ll pick this series back up, but I look forward to when I do.

These are the series of which I have all the books for… now I just need to read them…

What series have you yet to finish? Have you not finished some of the ones on my list too? Have you finished them? What did you think??

  1. I haven’t started The Red Queen series, but I’m on the waiting list for them at the library. I’m still 43 on the waiting list for War Storm (but it was in the 50s, so progress).

The Under the Never Sky Trilogy sounds interesting.

I have read the Young Elites, although I didn’t end up reading The Midnight Star until this January. I was planning on pre-ordering that book, but then I “won” the book in a sweepstakes and they never sent it to me. While I was patiently waiting for them to send me my prize, I forgot about it. It was really good.

    1. I haven’t finished the Red Queen series yet, so I can’t say that it was amazing but the first two books however were really good.

I think Under the Never Sky is really interesting because while the book literally tells you that it’s a dystopian world (our world) it feels like a different world (if that makes sense??) I’m really looking forward to reading the other two books :3

Yay! I’m really glad it’s good. I’ve been putting off The Young Elites series for a while now with literally no reason??? Did they send it to you eventually???

  2. omg the same thing happened to me with King’s Cage??!! I was having so much trouble getting into it after being so excited about it, so I listened to the audiobook which made it easier to get through but harder to get really invested in it. And then I tried reading War Storm and it…just…didn’t work. I got 40 pages in and put it down. So I’m giving the series a little break and maybe I’ll pick it up later on, and if not at the very least listen to the audiobook because I am really interested in seeing how everything ends up.

    1. I know and I;m really sad about it because I was loving the series from the first two books ; _ ; I want to love it but I can’t get into it. I’m gonna give it a break too. Come back to it another time, when I feel like I can power through 😀

  3. Oops… I still need to finish both The Young Elites and Red Queen…
I read the first Young Elites one and I really, really liked it. Then I just… didn’t read the second one, and now I’ve forgotten what happened. So. Oops.
And then Red Queen… I really enjoyed the first book, and then they *sort of* went downhill from there… But I’m still too invested to quit, so I’m still determined to read War Storm.

    1. Sometimes when a series goes in a way that I don’t like and know I won’t enjoy I have to kinda stick with it because I’ve already committed.
With Red Queen though… I’m currently reading King’s Cage and all would be fine. But I read the synopsis for War Storm and now I’m just kinda not sure?? Like I don’t know if I want to get to the point where Cal is “the bad guy”
But I really want to know what happens sooooooo I’m still gonna read them :3

I also need to finish the Rebel of the Sands series oops (why are those covers so gorgeous though afdjskal I can’t stop looking) and I’m still deciding whetherI should finish The Young Elites ones! the first one didn’t light up my life but I do want to see what happens.😂

    1. Sometimes I’ll start a series and plan to read through to the end… but then I don’t?? I get distracted by the shiny new books (although I have a lot of shiny new books I haven’t read either ; _ 😉
I even put a bookmark in Hero at the Fall because I was ready to start reading it. I have yet to start….
Apparently The Young Elites gets darker and more stabby towards the end :3

  5. Speaking of The Young Elites, I really need to finish that as well… I remember reading the first and the second but I never started with the third – oops! (Plus Adelina is preciously evil.) It only gets darker, I hear.

Surprisingly I haven’t finished any of the other books you mentioned despite starting most of them (Rebel of the Sands is just collecting dust). 😅

    1. She’s too precious… I have the urge to protect her but it would literally be a case of her trying to protect me because I keep flopping all over the place like “I’ll save you!” *face-smacks the ground*
      Oooooooo, more stabby-stabby. Me likey.

Hahaha, it’s just a list of disappointment really. There are actually others on my shelf that I haven’t finished but I was waaaaaay to ashamed to add them to this list! Out of sight out of mind :3

    1. I really liked the first Rebel of the Sands, the second book though I didn’t enjoy as much. I’m hoping everything will at least conclude nicely. I’m hoping I can finish the Red Queen series, if only because it’s been sitting on my shelf staring at me for a good long while :3
      Thank you!
