Guess what I did yesterday……
I flew through the 100 and something pages I had left of A Court of Wings and Ruin and then devoured A Court of Frost and Starlight….
The emotions are still pretty fresh, so I decided I would have a go at writing a review (If it goes terribly, just know that I have never [nor will I ever] claim to be a professional book reviewer)…
Since I don’t want to spoil anything about this series I will plop the synopsis for the first book here:
Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …
Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.
The start of a sensational romantic fantasy trilogy by the bestselling author of the Throne of Glass series.
Contains mature content. Not suitable for younger readers.
A Court of Thorns and Roses
I gave this one 4.5 out of 5 stars. With this book I feel like, while the story and everything was amazing and well written and I adored it (it’s SJM of course I adored it *rolls eyes at self*) , I feel like I loved this book more because of what it was leading up to, and not what it was. I still loved what it was, but what it promised to happen next snagged my attention.
What I really loved about this book though was Spring. The way it looked based on the words, the way it was described.
I don’t like the sweltering sun, but I do like flowers. Spring sound like a nice place to go to. I would visit it based on how Sarah J Maas described it. (I would suffer that heat if I had to, some flowers are just to pretty to not see. They don’t bloom the same each year)
A Court of Mist and Fury
I gave this one a 5 out of 5 stars. *deep inhale* I adored this book. Adored it. Like I’m-going-to-build-a-shrine-for-it kinda adored it.
The majority of my love for this book is probably because we got to see the Night Court. And because of all the new little cinnabuns to protect (Looking at you Azriel and Cassian). The emotion in this book was almost to much for me, especially when reading about what Feyre was going through. It genuinely upset me that they were upset.
AND THAT ENDING!!! NO!!! YOU’RE NOT ALOUD TO GIVE ME MY SHIP ONLY TO RIP IT APART!!! NO!!!
But it’s kinda okay. Things could have been worse. A lot worse.
I’m only glad I didn’t need to wait a year for the next book…… I wouldn’t have made it….. natural selection would have targeted me.
A Court of Wings and Ruin
While I still really like this one, it wasn’t as good as ACOMAF. I gave it a 4.5 out of 5 stars… It kinda felt like there was a lot of waiting around only to then have the battle shoved in out of nowhere. When the battle started I saw how many pages were left and I was like, “No way it can all get resolved in that!” I was so scared that this book had a cliffhanger, but everything was okie. No cliffhanger here boys. Well….. not a devastating one, more like a but what happens next kinda ending.
The thing I loved most about this book is the characters. The way that they changed and worked together to try and fix things, makes me feel like a proud mama hen. (Literally all the characters are older than me)….. PROUD MAMA HEN!
A Court of Frost and Starlight
*cue the awwwww-ing sounds*
This book. Was fluffy. There were some dark bits obviously but fluffy none the less. They were all celebrating Solstice and stuff and it was all happy and Azriel was laughing…. what more could you want. Honestly anything where Azriel is happy…. I’m happy. HE MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS!!! OKAY?
I’d give this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars as well.
I read it in more or less one sitting.
My only complaint was the ending… I really just wanted them to all be happy… but nope. There has to be pain…
I know that SJM is going to write a spin off series for this world. And judging by the sneak-peak at the end, I’m guessing it’s going to involve Cassian and Nesta. Which is great…. but the sneak-peak made me kinda sad…. Why can’t they be happy? I’m literally gonna read the next series and chant until there’s a happy ending.
I have been destroyed I think.
*SCREAMS INTO THE VOID ABOUT HOW UNFAIR EVERYTHING IS!! JUST LET THEM BE HAPPY YOU mONsTer!!!*
Have you read this series? How did you feel about it? Were you also sad from that ending of ACOFAS (the sneak peak thing I mean)?
